What is a taxon set?

A taxon set can be any externally defined taxonomic groups that have something in common, for example:

  • Taxa that share the same phenotypical traits such as shape, motility, oxygen requirement, etc;
  • Taxa that have been found to be significantly associated with particular developmental, physiological or disease conditions.

The main goal of creating taxon set is to organize taxa into some “meaningful” groups to help with data interpretation and hypothesis generation
